Is the only difference between a push jerk and a push press what side of your neck you start from?

The push press you are simply driving w/ your legs to get the bar over head, a shallower version of a thruster sort of. A push jerk you are actually jumping the weight overhead and pulling yourself underneath the bar at the same time.

i hate heavy lifting days, i inevitably always end up hurting my shoulder...and now i am going to finish icing it and pop so more advil :(
